Principal's Weekly Message- September 1, 2023

Campus Updates & Reminders:

We had a great second week of school at Korematsu! Our students are getting into their routines and learning/ reviewing our school expectations. Your child has been talking about our P.A.W.S. expectations in their class. Ask them how they can apply our P.A.W.S. rules to the playground and see what they learned this week!

This week we started our first iReady diagnostic. This is an online assessment that 1st through 6th graders take three times per year for us to monitor their progress in reading and math. As a team, we review the data to determine appropriate supports and extensions to provide our students. The iReady window will continue over the next few weeks in our classrooms. Kindergartners will not take this assessment until the end of the year.

Please remember that our students’ learning time is so important to us. As you head to campus to pick up your child after school, we ask that you wait away from the classroom wings. This allows our teachers the chance to hold our students’ attention and wrap up the day. As the classroom doors open for dismissal, this is a good time to make your way into the wing to pick up your student.

Next to our campus is the Early Learning Center (ELC). While we share space, we are two separate campuses. It is important that we do not utilize their parking spaces or traffic loops. The traffic loop is especially vital as the ELC receives bus services. There have been several instances over this last week where the bus has not been able to drop students off or pick students up. Please help us be good neighbors and use only our parking lot and loop.
