Principal's Weekly Message- December 8, 2023

Special Message from Mrs. Andrews:

As you read in my message yesterday afternoon, our school was yet again hit with racist graffiti this past week. While we at the school and at the district are taking this very seriously, I understand the profound impact of harm this type of incident causes to our students, staff, and families. I want to assure you all that we do not accept racism or any sort of discrimination on our campus and live by Fred T. Korematsu’s message to “speak up”. If you or your child is concerned about any discriminatory acts on our campus, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Campus Updates & Reminders:

Please remember that campus does not open to students until 8:10AM. We are still having students show up before this time. Supervision for student safety is not available until campus opens.

Traveling for the holidays? Don't fall behind. We know that this time of year brings extra travel for many families and this means that students may have to miss school. Short-term independent study (STIS) is available for students who know in advance that they will be absent for three+ school days, and enables the student to stay current with coursework provided by their teacher(s). For more information on STIS, please visit the District website

PTO Message:

It’s the giving season! Korematsu has a program called Adopt-a-Family, and we would love your support to make this year special for some children and families. This year, we have 140 family members who can really use our help. We plan to provide each family with a grocery, Target/Walmart, and/or gas gift cards. Everything is kept anonymous for the families' sake.  If you are feeling generous, feel free to sign up for multiple slots. However, so we can fairly distribute these gift cards, we ask that you keep to the monetary values assigned. In addition to the grocery, Target/Walmart, and gas cards below, we have a Venmo option for those who would rather contribute monetarily and have us get the appropriate gift card. Please bring the gift cards to the office by December 15th. You can sign up for a giving spot here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0D4EA5AE2FA6F49-46640540-adoptafamily#/

The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre. A tour team will arrive in their “little red truck” loaded with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play…except the cast. The 2 person Missoula team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and the public performance on that Saturday. This year's production will be Beauty Lou and the Country Beast and will be the week of January 8th -13th. Auditions for the Missoula Children's Theater and Korematsu Elementary's production will be Monday, January 8th in the MPR at 3:45.

We need your help! We are looking for someone to host the directors to save on hotel fees ($1,500). If you are interested and have 2 extra rooms or have a connection at a local (ish) hotel. Please email Ashley at [email protected]
