Principal's Weekly Message- December 15, 2023

Campus Updates & Reminders:

I want to extend a big thank you to the many members of our school community and beyond that have reached out after our hate crime incident last week. Our staff is still processing the incident, working with district officials, and determining ways to continue to support our Black community. I have been engaged in age-appropriate class meetings with many classes this week (and will continue into next week) as we help our kids process what happened and continue to lean in heavily on Fred T. Korematsu’s words about speaking up if you see something wrong.

Our district multilingual department is sponsoring a movie screening for all Spanish-speaking families. Members from the multilingual department will host a question-and-answer period after the viewing of Translators. This event will take place on Monday, December 18th from 5:00-6:00PM at Brunelle Hall (315 W. 14th Street).

PTO Message:

Thank you to all of the families that donated to our “Adopt-a-Family” giving tree this year. Your generosity is appreciated. We will be distributing the gift cards next week.

Yearbooks are on sale now! You can order at www.buytheyearbook.com and enter our school code: 718507. Purchase before 1/1/24 for $27. After that, the cost will increase to $30.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre. A tour team will arrive in their “little red truck” loaded with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play…except the cast. The 2 person Missoula team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and the public performance on that Saturday. This year's production will be Beauty Lou and the Country Beast and will be the week of January 8th -13th. Auditions for the Missoula Children's Theater and Korematsu Elementary's production will be Monday, January 8th in the MPR at 3:45.

We need your help! We are looking for someone to host the directors to save on hotel fees ($1,500). If you are interested and have 2 extra rooms or have a connection at a local (ish) hotel. Please email Ashley at [email protected]
