Campus Updates & Reminders:
We had a wonderful first week of the school year! Students spent the week getting to know their teachers and peers, creating community in their classrooms, and getting to know the PAWS expectations of Korematsu. Here are the PAWS expectations to review with your child at home:
P- practice kindness
A- act responsibly
W- work and play safely
S- solve problems
We are also asking our adults to practice PAWS expectations, especially in the parking lot. Please make sure that you are adhering to all traffic expectations and keeping the parking lot a safe place for all of our coyotes.
PTO Message:
Still need a Komatsu T-Shirt for your student to wear on Spirit Day Fridays? Order youth t-shirts online through Tuesday 9/2 for delivery to your student next week. The full online store with adult sizes and other gear will open later in September.
Join the Korematsu PTO! $20 per adult for an annual membership. No requirements for meetings or volunteering. Learn more at KorematsuPTO.org.
Social Justice Corner:
Our first “Speak Up” assembly of the year is this upcoming week! This month, we will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Each month, we will be learning about two social justice icons. This week, let’s learn about Sonia Sotomayor:
- Family is from Puerto Rico
- Went to law school and eventually became a Supreme Court Justice in 2009
- First Hispanic person to serve on the Supreme Court
- Only the third women to serve on the Supreme Court
- Fights for equal rights for others based on their race, gender and identity
- Received many awards like the 2019 National Women’s Hall of Fame and the 2024 Radcliffe Medal (for people who have made a big difference for others)
