Weekly Howler: Week of September 8, 2025

Campus Updates & Reminders:

This upcoming Wednesday is our annual Back to School Night event! During this time, your child’s teacher will be presenting all of the “need to knows” for the year. This is a general information session and not a time for 1:1 meetings with teachers. If you have specific concerns that you would like to discuss with your child’s teacher, please reach out to them to schedule a meeting. We understand that childcare can be difficult to come by. If you are able to coordinate care for your children, that’s the best option. If not, please make sure your children stay with you for supervision during the event.

Next week, you will be receiving information regarding this year’s School Site Council elections. SSC is a committee made of parents and staff that assist the Principal on budgetary decisions for the upcoming school year. If you are interested in running for a position this year, keep an eye out for an email on Monday with details on how to submit your name for consideration.

PTO Message:

PTO will be on hand at Back to School Night next Wednesday selling school t-shirts and handing out more information about PTO memberships. Memberships have no requirements for meetings or volunteering. If you can’t make it to the PTO table on Wednesday, you can learn more at KorematsuPTO.org.

Social Justice Corner:

This week we launched the DJUSD “Know Better. Do Better. Be Better.” campaign. This campaign is in response to the district’s continued work to combat dehumanizing lanugage, symbols, and behaviors on our campuses. As part of the campaign, students received silicon wristbands with the pledge on them. As we discussed the purpose of this pledge at our Speak Up Assembly, students brainstormed ways that they can uphold these values. One student said, “really it just means we need to be kind and speak up for others like Fred Korematsu did.” We couldn’t agree more!
