Campus Updates & Reminders:
As we see the weather begin to change, we know that there are impacts to our students’ day-to-day success. Here are some friendly reminders
to help keep your kids on track for a positive school experience:
Rainy days impact traffic. Give yourself plenty of time to navigate the extra influx of cars. Remember, safety is the first priority. Follow all traffic signs and laws as we get our kids to school. Remember that we are all in this together; no one wants a dangerous situation in our parking lot or on our side streets.
Make sure your student is properly dressed for the changing weather. Layer up with sweatshirts and jackets, and make sure they have appropriate footwear. We do our best to make sure students are out of the elements, but there are still times they must navigate the campus when it’s wet and cold.
If your child brings an umbrella, please talk to them about umbrella rules. Remind them that they are tools, not toys.

Social Justice Corner:
The first Filipino social justice icon we learned about this month was Larry Itliong. Here’s some more information about him:
Born in the Philippines in 1913 and immigrated to the US in 1929
Worked as a farm laborer on the West Coast and at salmon canneries in Alaska
Wanted to be a lawyer but discrimination against him kept him from getting an education
He became an organizer for labor unions to help farmworkers, many of them also Filipino, who were being treated unfairly
Influenced Cesar Chavez in the creation of the United Farm Workers when they teamed up with Filipino farm workers during the Grapw Strike of 1965
For his continued work to help farmworkers, CA Governor signed into law “Larry Itliong Day” to be celebrated on his birthday, October 25
Inducted into the CA Hall of Fame in 2021
