Campus Updates & Reminders:
We are officially wrapping up the first month of the school year! Well done, all! October is going to be very busy. Please keep an eye on the calendar for upcoming school functions that will be happening this month.
A gentle reminder that all students are to leave campus immediately after their dismissal or be under parent guardian supervision. Students dismissed earlier in the delay cannot wait on campus for siblings dismissed later without adult supervision. If you are a parent/guardian waiting for a student to be dismissed, please also make sure not to congregate in the hallways as some classes are still in session.
Our first ELAC (English Language Advisory Committee) meeting of the year is this upcoming Wednesday. This is an opportunity for the families of our English Learners to meet ELD teacher, Lisa Casagrande, and hear about the exciting plans for the school year. The meeting will be 8:15-9:30 on Wednesday in room C-14.
PTO Message:
Our annual Jog-A-Thon fundraiser - a flyer should have come home; it is a bright green page.
Check your email for your invite to your personal fundraising page on 99Pledges. Sent from Korematsu Jog-A-Thon, [email protected]on Friday, September 20th. This platform lets you easily send messages, share on social media, and collect donations for your student(s).
This fundraiser is an important one and one that allows kids to be proud of their efforts and perseverance. Please help your student procure pledges that will celebrate their hard work and endurance.
- Each class will jog for 30 minutes around a special course on the grass behind the blacktop. Track size will vary by grade level. The largest track will be 1/8 a mile.
- Students can walk, run, skip, or jump around the course at their own pace. We will count each student’s laps.
- Kids can use their own water bottles with the ability to refill it from a water station.
- We want all students to participate! If your child is unable to walk or jog for a 30-minute period, please contact your child’s teacher so that we can make alternate arrangements for your child to be involved.
- Can I come cheer? Yes – all visitors to school grounds must check in at the Korematsu school office. Consider being a volunteer! We will be posting class run times as the events get closer.
Social Justice Corner:
It’s time to kick of the second month of our social justice series! October we will be celebrating Disability Pride Month. Typically, this is celebrated in the month of July. However, since this is an important population of students on our campus, we didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to celebrate together. Here is a video that discusses the importance of celebrating differently abled individuals: https://www.youtubeeducation.com/watch?t=3&v=TpkwSQQbFEg
