Campus Updates & Reminders:
Welcome to 2023! We had a great first week back with our students and are excited to kick off the second half of the school year.
Another week of wet and windy weather is ahead for us. Please continue to send your child with appropriate clothing and footwear in the coming days. We will keep students inside during inclimate weather with hopes of getting them outside whenever possible to get their wiggles out. I will continue to be in close contact with our district office about the upcoming storm and any impact that it may have on our campus.
We are excited to announce this year’s Oral Language Fair (OLF)! The OLF provides students with the opportunity to become part of a long-standing annual event at Korematsu and the spoken-word tradition. The OLF asks students to learn and recite poetry, speeches, or other prose around a theme while learning about communication and public speaking. Students may write their own pieces or recite work written by someone else. They can be performed as an individual, as part of a small group, or as part of a large group. Please check with your child’s teacher about their specific plans to support the OLF in the classroom. Any student in K-6 is invited to participate. This year’s theme is “Be the Change” and focuses on the idea best said by Nelson Mandela, “We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in our hands to make a difference.” Students will need to turn in an entry form (if they are part of a group then they only need one form per group). Forms are due no later than Tuesday, January 17th. The OLF (just participants and judges) will take place on March 8th and we will have daytime assemblies to showcase students on March 15th. Students can pick up a form from their teacher and some will also be available in the office. We are looking forward to a great OLF this year. PTO Message:
Missoula Theater starts next week and this year's production will be "The Jungle Book"! All students are welcome to audition after school on Monday, January 9th after school. Please see the notice from PTO regarding the process for auditions and rehearsal commitments.

This month's PTO meeting will be on Wednesday 1/18 at 7:00pm in the Korematsu library.
