Campus Updates & Reminders:
Attendance continues to be an area of focus as we move through the school year. Per district policy and state law, we must send truancy letters to families of students with excessive tardies and/or unexcused absences. These letters have begun going out this week and will outline the next steps, as needed.
If you have an upcoming planned absence, stop by the front office to request a short-term independent form. We ask that you make this request two weeks in advance to allow ample time for the teacher to prep the work. Short-term independent study is limited to a maximum of 15 school days in a year.
Mr. Shank’s and Mr. Pollock’s kindergarten classes are hosting a fundraiser at the Davis Schools Foundation “THE FLYING CAROUSEL OF THE DELTA BREEZE” on Saturday October 5th, from 9:00 – 1:00, in Davis Central Park. Bring the kids for a ride, have some tasty food from the Davis Farmer’s Market, and support our students!
PTO Message:
We love volunteers and have lots of great opportunities to get involved that work with many schedules. The PTO is made up entirely of volunteers- family members like you! It takes a village to plan, organize, and support our school community. Help with administrative tasks on your own time, volunteer for a short event shift, or take on leadership roles. Sign up for opportunities at https://korematsupto.org/volunteer
The online spirit store is now live and won’t be open for long! If you are interested in purchasing some Korematsu gear, you can do so by visiting this website: https://www.rallyfactory.com/korematsu/elementary/page/2/
Social Justice Corner:
Every month we introduce our students to various social justice terms. This month we learned about:
Social justice: the practice of allyship and coalition work in order to promote equality, equity, respect, and the assurance of rights within and between communities and social groups
Active listening: a process of hearing and understanding what someone is saying by empathizing with the speaker(s) and considering their perspective(s)
Important Dates:
9/24: Picture Day (All students get picture taken)
