Principal's Weekly Howler: October 7, 2024

Campus Updates & Reminders:

Our annual Jog-A-Thon is this upcoming Wednesday! Since it will take place during the school day, all students will participate, regardless of participation in fundraising. Please make sure your child comes to school with appropriate footwear and a water bottle for the event. See more information in the PTO Message for how to fundraise and volunteer.

1st-3rd grade parents: if your child is participating in the Running Club after school, please remind them to go immediately to the field. We have some students wandering campus after school without supervision.

PTO Message:

Our annual Jog-A-Thon fundraiser - a flyer should have come home; it is a bright green page.

Check your email for your invite to your personal fundraising page on 99Pledges. Sent from Korematsu Jog-A-Thon, [email protected]on Friday, September 20th. This platform lets you easily send messages, share on social media, and collect donations for your student(s).

This fundraiser is an important one and one that allows kids to be proud of their efforts and perseverance. Please help your student procure pledges that will celebrate their hard work and endurance.

  • Each class will jog for 30 minutes around a special course on the grass behind the blacktop. Track size will vary by grade level. The largest track will be 1/8 a mile.
  • Students can walk, run, skip, or jump around the course at their own pace. We will count each student’s laps.
  • Kids can use their own water bottles with the ability to refill it from a water station.
  • We want all students to participate! If your child is unable to walk or jog for a 30-minute period, please contact your child’s teacher so that we can make alternate arrangements for your child to be involved.
  • Can I come cheer? Yes – all visitors to school grounds must check in at the Korematsu school office. Consider being a volunteer! We will be posting class run times as the events get closer.

Social Justice Corner:

We had a great assembly on Wednesday kicking off our celebration of Disability Pride and Inclusion month. We had the pleasure of welcoming two guest speakers to talk about their personal experiences, Angela (former KOR student) and Lisa (disability advocate and DJUSD staff member). Students learned about the successes of two disability heroes: Rose Hollermann (Paralympian in Wheelchair Basketball) and Temple Grandin (animal rights activist).

You can see more incredible Paralympian athletes by visiting: https://www.nbcolympics.com/videos/topic/paralympics
