Welcome to 2025! We hope you enjoyed the extended break with your student and family!
A reminder, we will be starting school on Monday, January 6th. Only the senior high school is on a “teacher workday”.
PTO Message:
We are a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit organization focused on supporting Fred T. Korematsu Elementary School. Thank you to all the parents, guardians, friends, teachers, staff, volunteers, and donors that have helped make this first half of the school year a success!
Social Justice Corner:
January is all about our school’s namesake, Fred T. Korematsu! We will be holding this month’s “Speak Up” assembly on January 30th, Mr. Korematsu’ birthday. All month long, we will be highlighting the life and legacy of Mr. Korematsu.
Early Life:
- Born: January 30, 1919 in Oakland
- His parents were immigrants to the USA from Japan
- His original name was Toyosaburo, but a teacher changed it to Fred because it was “easier”.
- Grew up with his parents and three brothers, helping run the family’s flower nursery
