Campus Updates & Reminders:
Message from DJUSD regarding strategic fencing update- As a follow-up to the outreach held in November 2024 regarding the proposed fencing at Korematsu, we would like to inform you that there will be no further outreach on this matter. After careful consideration, the current fencing plans will proceed as part of the construction of the new Early Childhood Education Facility.
In alignment with the current direction from the DJUSD Board, full perimeter fencing will not be implemented at any site, including Korematsu Elementary. Therefore, no additional fencing will be constructed at this time.
We greatly appreciate the valuable input and concerns many of you have shared and thank you for your continued engagement throughout this process. Should you have any questions or need further clarification, please feel free to reach out via email at [email protected].

PTO Message:
This month’s Take-Out-Tuesday at Black Bear Diner is an all-day event. Feel free to share the code (553-537-330) with your friends and family so they can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner next Tuesday and support our coyotes!
Remember to mark your calendars for Missoula Theater February 10-15th! Do you have a child that likes to act? This is a great chance to participate in a week-long theater production. More information to come.
Social Justice Corner:
January is all about our school’s namesake, Fred T. Korematsu! We will be holding this month’s “Speak Up” assembly on January 30th, Mr. Korematsu’ birthday. All month long, we will be highlighting the life and legacy of Mr. Korematsu.
Freedom:
- Japanese Americans were released from internment camps in 1944, but they did not clear Korematsu of his arrest
- Fred and his family moved back to their home in California, but their life had to be completely rebuilt
- Fred was not cleared of his arrest until 1983
