Principal Message. October 26, 2020.
Posted on 10/26/2020

Hello Korematsu Families,

I cannot believe we are in our last week of October. Time seems to be flying by, but for some reason my days seem to move slowly! I am definitely missing being on campus with our students and staff. For those of you who celebrate Halloween, please be extra safe this year. Here are some updates for this week:

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for the week of November 16th. Please note that your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you in the upcoming weeks with information to set up a conference to discuss your child’s academic progress for this year. As we did in the spring of last school year, all meetings will be conducted virtually over zoom. More information to come.

Chromebook Usage & Safety

Please remind your student(s) that DJUSD chromebooks are to be used for school work only. This consists of attending zoom meetings, emailing their teacher or classmate (if doing group work or for assignment clarification), using the assigned websites by teachers, completing classwork, researching for class projects, etc. I will be doing a screencast to remind 4th-6th grade students about when to use their chromebook and how to safely look things up online.
As the principal, I receive alerts from our online security system anytime a student looks up (google) or writes about something (google assignment or email) that is deemed as inappropriate or could indicate self harm or harm to others. When these alerts come through, I will contact a parent via a phone call if I am concerned about a student’s safety, or I will send an email to make you aware of the situation (this means I do not have immediate safety concerns, but want to make sure you have the same information as me). I have noticed a slow uptick in alerts, which is why I am bringing it to your attention (along with staff) and making the screencast for intermediate grades.

Attendance/Reporting Absences

Anytime your child is going to be absent, please call the Korematsu office. If no one answers, leave a message (ext. 101) and we will take care of your child’s attendance for the day. If it is a pre-planned absence and you send the teacher an email about it, please also copy Semra Fanucchi at Teachers try their best to remember to forward your emails about absences, but it does not always happen due to their busy schedules.

  • Wednesday, November 11th: NO School/Veterans' Day
  • Friday, November 13th: NO School/Teacher Work Day
  • November 16-20: Virtual Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • November 16-30: PTO’s Virtual Scholastic Book Fair

Principal Curtaz
