Dear Korematsu Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed your weekend. Although I have appreciated the cooler weather, I am getting excited for the upcoming 80’s forecast (I am definitely a Bay Area girl at heart, and not a fan of HOT weather!). We are in our seventh week of school for the 20-21 school year. Students and teachers seem to be in a nice routine with Distance Learning. Please remember that if you have a child feeling overwhelmed, to reach out to your child’s teacher. Teachers are learning to differentiate in the digital format, which is very different from how it is done in person. As I said in my Back to School Night presentation, it truly takes time to find the right fit for each child. I’m also available to brainstorm time management ideas for students in this current format of learning. Here are a few updates for the week:

School Site Council

Below is the link to the School Site Council ballot for our three open parent positions for the 20-21 school year. Please take a moment (should take about 3 minutes) to complete the ballot by voting for up to 3 candidates. The ballot will be up and available for the entire week.

Coming Soon: Lunch Bunch with Ms. Mears

Lunch Bunches will begin on October 12 for TK-1st, October 13 for 2nd-3rd and October 14 for 4th-6th. Lunch Bunch will be an opportunity for students to get together (virtually) during lunch time to play games, interact with other students and have fun! Lunch Bunches are open to any and all students who would like to participate.

*Zoom links are also available on the Counselor Course in Canvas.
If you DO NOT want your child to participate in Lunch Bunch or any future virtual clubs hosted by Ms. Mears, please fill out this form prior to October 12th: Virtual Club Opt-Out

Message from the Korematsu PTO

Remembering Mrs. Maria Garcia, former 3rd grade teacher at Korematsu Elementary: Mrs. Garcia retired in June 2019 to take care of her health after a cancer diagnosis. She fought it the same zest she had for all she did in life, but unfortunately she lost her battle in August of this year. The PTO worked with her husband to find a way to honor Mrs. Garcia’s memory. If interested, please go to the link below to find more information on how to donate to a cause close to her heart (animals) and pancreatic cancer research, along with reading some memories written by some of our staff. Maria Garcia was truly an amazing human being and will be missed by the Korematsu community.

Sending you and your families well wishes.

All the Best,

Principal Curtaz
