Dear Korematsu Families,

We have four more weeks of school left for the 19-20 school year. What a roller coaster it has been! In the next couple of weeks, I will be sending out times for picking up student items left in classrooms along with dropping off school items (library books, books in a bag, etc.). Sixth grade families: The 6th grade team and I are working on a plan for a proper send-off to Junior High- STAY TUNED! Here are a few updates for this week:

This Week’s Spirit Day: Favorite Character Day. Students may dress as their favorite character in a book, movie, show, cartoon, etc. (making sure it’s appropriate for school). Please look for teacher announcements for your child’s WebEx Spirit Day (not everyone is live on Fridays). However, when in doubt, Fridays are GREAT for dressing up! Please share pics on FB with Korematsu Principal Curtaz.

Families of Band and String Students: I have attached a drop-off schedule for instruments. Please refer to the schedule. If you or your student have questions, please reach out to their music teacher.

From the Desk of Nurse Laura Bork: I hope this email finds you all healthy and well. I am sure your email inboxes have been overflowing the last several weeks, but I wanted to take a moment to share with you that the DJUSD school nurses have been working on ways to support students, families, and staff during these difficult times. We understand families may feel overwhelmed with supporting students through distance learning, and therefore we’ve developed a new Healthy Living webpage, which is housed on the district’s Covid-19 page. Our intent is to offer information and support for families who may want to include health instruction for students. We have divided the page into five categories:

  • Nutrition and Physical Activity
  • Growth and Development
  • Injury Prevention and Safety
  • Personal/Community Health
  • Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drugs

In addition, the Healthy Living web page links to the Kids Healthy Living Place, with videos, activities, games and apps geared specifically toward children. The nursing team is continuing to add to this resource, so please check back often.

The district’s counselors have also developed a wonderful resource for families, which provides opportunities for Social Emotional Learning.

Please know that your school nurses are here to support families, students and staff during these unprecedented times. If your family has any health concerns, please contact your school nurse for information, support, resources, and/or referrals. We’re all in this together!

Here’s to a great week,

Principal Curtaz
