ME Museum Directions went home with students on Monday. The date of each student's presentation is at the top.  Every student will do a presentation between November 6 and December 19. I will put a list of presentation dates and the directions under the resources tab of the website.

Reading: We are continuing our focused reading project on a fictional novel around 150 pages long. Last week students should have chosen and started reading their book and filling out their one page book report.

This week: Yesterday in class we looked at writing a Book Review. Students brought home an instruction sheet (also attached here) and some examples to write a Book Review on their book.

Math: Beginning a unit on basic multiplication concepts including how to break larger problems into smaller pieces to solve. Students are working with these concepts with smaller numbers to have a strong foundation to do it with larger numbers.

Assignment:  1-1, 1-2 (do both sides), and 1-3

After reviewing their work, it seems that a majority of students need more practice with angles and classifying quadrilaterals. I decided to put a small review at the beginning of each math period and send the remainder home for practice as homework. This means your student will be bringing home work each day (including Friday). Ideally they would finish it each evening but all sheets are due MONDAY, October 22.

Monday: CC57 Measuring angles

Tuesday: CC59 Adding and subtracting to find angle measures

Wednesday: CC61 Draw and identify specific points, lines, planes, parallel and perpendicular

Thursday: CC63 Classify two dimensional shapes

Friday: CC64 Lines of Symmetry

Students will also be reading with a more structured purpose for the next TWO weeks. I am asking them to select a fiction book (most will read one that is about 150 pages). This week they will read and begin completing a one page book report (sending home a form for them which they have already used in class). Next week they will be writing a book review for their book. Students will bring their book AND work to school on Monday, October 29. On Tuesday, October 30 we will have a museum walk of books so that students can see what their peers have chosen to read and hopefully get some new good ideas for themselves.
